Rise & Fall (with Simeon Walker)

My new single is a collaboration. Simeon Walker have known each other for getting close to a decade now. I love his music and really value his friendship, so I'm really delighted that we worked together on this piece.

My simple harmony is enhanced by Sim's melodic interjections, a nice metaphor for the many conversations about music and life that we've shared.

'Rise & Fall' is coming out on Bigo & Twigetti as part of the second volume of their Scale series.

I find 'scale' is a really interesting composition prompt because it can work on both a structural (e.g. 1:10 scale) and a harmonic level.

For Scale Vol. 1 I composed with a really interesting symmetrical scale called D major-minor, with the resulting piece called 'Symmetry'. I love it and a few people told me some lovely things about it but it honestly never really took off and is one of my least played tracks. That's the way it goes sometimes!

This time I decided to write a simple harmonisation of the E natural minor scale. I sent it to Sim, who improvised above it (like we've done in concert a couple of times). He's got such a lovely style, it really came together nicely.
