Collaboration with Taichi Chishaki: "carried by waves"
My work collaborating with composer-pianist Taichi Chishaki was a real highlight of this year, and our first release is out now.
Taichi is a composer from Tokyo. He tells me that his music values symmetry and “Ma (afterglow of sound)”, which is a characteristic of Japanese traditional culture.
He sent me a few melodic and harmonic ideas, which I fleshed out into the piece, which we then jointly named “carried by waves”, a title that seems to sum up the way the music moves.
